What Is Chelation?
Chelation therapy is a series of intravenous infusion treatments using EDTA
(ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid), a synthetic amino acid which has the
ability to "bond" or "hook onto" molecules of calcium,
lead, cadmium, mercury and some of the trace minerals. When the EDTA combines
with these minerals in your circulatory system, they are filtered out through
the kidneys and eliminated from the body in the urine.
Arteriosclerosis, a medical condition caused by chronic changes in the arterial
walls, eventually produces obstructions to the blood flow. The mechanism of
action of chealtion treatments is still debated as is frequently true in all
medical treatments, but nonetheless there clinically is an increase in the
oxygenated blood supply to every cell and tissue in the body.
Our Protocol
The chelation therapy protocol that we administer at The Hills Medical
Group has been developed in accordance with The American College for the Advancement
in Medicine (ACAM). Founded in 1973, ACAM is a non-profit corporation, primarily
engaged in researching the treatment of coronary artery disease and its related
conditions. Approximately 750 licensed physicians have safely treated over
500,000 patients in this country, utilizing the protocol developed by ACAM.
The Hills Medical Group also recommends a comprehensive approach in conjunction
with the chelation protocol which includes lifestyle changes such as a healthy
diet, regular exercise, stress management, increased rest and sleep, and avoiding
detrimental substance usage (e.g. alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, etc.)
How Many Treatments Will I Receive?
Although the number of intravenous infusions for optimal therapeutic
benefit varies with each patient, the routine regimen is a series of 30 infusions
given once or twice weekly with a period of at least 24 hours between sessions.
After the initial program of 30 infusions, it is recommended that the patient
continue to receive intravenous therapy once or twice a month for one year
to sustain improvements in physical parameters, then one time every three
months thereafter for maintenance as determined by our credentialed medical
staff.
